Tea Type: Red (called Black Tea in the US and Europe)
Origin: Mars Hill, North Carolina, United States
Grower/Producer: Red Sun Tea
Carolina Sunrise is Steep Valley Tea's first AMERICAN tea! It's not common to find hand-picked teas that are grown in the US; we have the climate in some places, but we didn't establish tea plants hundreds and hundreds of years ago. This tea is especially important to me, as it is an Appalachian-grown tea; my husband Carson is Appalachian born and raised, and being able to uphold a grower from the region is a point of pride.
Red Sun Tea grows their tea in a self-sustaining agroforestry system: everything they need to cultivate the tea trees comes from their farm. There are no synthetic chemical fertilizers, pesticides, or herbicides used on their tea. They have been cultivating tea in Mars Hill for 20 years.
Hot Tasting Notes: As the flavors develops, the malty flavor of red tea makes way for a sweet raspberry note that fills the roof of the mouth. Carolina Sunrise is a juicy tea that is absolutely delicious.
NEW! Cold-Brewed Tasting Notes: The sweeter, fruity flavors come out in the cold-brewed tea, making it taste almost as if you added a touch of sugar to it. I advise trying it without sweetener first, and then sweetening to taste as you see fit.
